Rowena King
Rowena King (born Roweena Josephine King in London on 6 December 1970) is a British stage, film and television actress. == Life and work == Born as ''Roweena Josephine King'' on 6 December 1970 in London to Phyllis, the daughter of immigrants from Liberia, and John, a British mechanic, Rowena spent her childhood with her parents in Hertfordshire. She attended formal dramatic studies at the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts〔 and at the London Drama School, from where King transitioned to ensemble work with the Royal Shakespeare Company.〔 King first appeared in the 1991 drama ''London Kills Me'', and she soon became a frequent presence in the television series of the United Kingdom, among others in ''Framed'', ''Screen One'', ''Full Stretch'', ''Just a Gigolo'', ''To Play the King'', ''Tales of the South Seas'' and ''Wonderful You'' in recurring roles. King is known to the public for her performance of ''Amelie'' in ''Wide Sargasso Sea'' alongside Karina Lombard, Michael York and Naomi Watts, in the 1993 film adaption of Jean Rhys's 1966 novel of the same name directed by John Duigan, and as ''Rachel Morris'' in director Julian Richards' ''Darklands''. Her collaboration with Kenneth Branagh in his four-hour screen version of ''Hamlet'', drew on King's Shakespearean background, but provided her with relatively little screen time as ''attendant to Gertrude''. In 2006 the English actress had a secondary role in Peter Levin's ''A perfect day'' with Rob Lowe and Christopher Lloyd where she played ''Heather''.〔 In 2007 she appeared as ''Angelica'' in Rob Reiner's ''The Bucket List'' alongside Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson. King's additional television credits include since the mid-2000s guest rules, among others in ''Grey's Anatomy'', ''Eli Stone'', ''Nip/Tuck'', ''Lie to Me'', ''Death in Paradise'', and recurring roles in ''Breaking News'', ''Half & Half'' and ''The Wrong Mans''.
